Micro System Hi Fi

Over the years we have constantly changed the way we listen to music.

We moved on from record players to radiograms. These were often pieces of furniture that housed a radio, record player, speakers and even storage for the old vinyl 33’s and 45’s. As we started to demand better quality for our listening it became normal to buy each part of your set up separately. We would buy an amplifier, tuner, record deck and speakers individually, and as this became the norm, the manufacturers started to build towers that housed all these elements, and so the hi fi was born.

Although the old cabinets had gone the towers were still housed in a unit that took up the space of a chair, the speakers were large and on stands or fixed on brackets to the wall. Of course, part of your set up was a record deck, as we still used vinyl at this time, so the whole thing had to be big enough to accommodate the deck on top.

Everything changed with the advent of CD’s. The units no longer had to be enormous things that sat in a corner of the room. The whole unit was designed around the CD player so it could be much smaller. The Micro System had arrived and it could sit nicely on a shelf, fit easily into the living room or bedroom. With all these changes you might think that we would lose the audio quality, but as technology has moved on, so less has become more.

The technology has moved on even further, with MP3’s and USB ports you can listen to your music from any source. Some micro systems even have the ability to play DVD when connected to your TV either direct from the disc or via the USB function from your PC or MP4.

There is an enormous range of Micro System to choose from and one to fit every budget, the options are endless.
